Privacy
Last updated 28 October 2026. Echo is made by Bitprods. In short: Echo has no account, no analytics and no server of ours. Your voice never leaves your Mac.
Your voice
Echo listens only while you hold the dictation key (or after you double-tap it, until you stop). The audio goes straight into Echo's speech model, which runs on your Mac. Audio is never stored and never sent anywhere.
Your text
- Off and Apple modes: the text never leaves your Mac. Apple mode uses Apple's on-device model.
- AI mode: the text of each dictation is sent to the AI you picked (for example Claude or Codex), through that tool, under your own account and that provider's terms. With a model on your Mac (Ollama, LM Studio) it stays on your Mac.
- History: Echo keeps your dictations (text only) on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Echo. You can export or clear it, or turn it off in Settings.
Your accounts
Echo never asks for, reads or stores your passwords, API keys or sign-in tokens. It runs the AI tools you installed, signed in the way you signed them in, and asks them whether you're signed in.
What Echo downloads
Echo's speech model (about 630 MB, once) from Hugging Face. Nothing else, unless you ask it to download a local model.
